The Components of Tone
Part 1: The Soundboard Assembly
Jude Reveley, RPT
This is the first in a series of planned lectures on the components of piano tone.
Understanding the soundboard assembly in terms of both function and its relevance
to piano tone is not only extremely useful to us as technicians but fundamental to
our ability to analyze, diagnose and resolve the myriad of situations that each
piano may present. Using models and slides, we will explore the physics and
anatomy of the soundboard, construction techniques, the function of crown and
downbearing, scaling, bridge location and more.
Remember to join us for PIZZA & Drinks
at 6:00pm -
